Montgomery Reef - Kimberley, Western Australia

Montgomery Reef is a remarkable and unique reef platform located off the Kimberley coast of Western Australia. Situated between Camden Sound and Collier Bay, the reef forms part of Lalang-Garram/Camden Sound Marine Park, and covers more than 300 square kilometres in area. It is the world’s largest inshore reef, and experiences a huge tidal range, sometimes up to 10 metres (33 ft) within a day. The outward going tide creates an astonishing torrent of water flowing off the reef, creating hundreds of cascading waterfalls and a river through the main reef channel that attract an incredible diversity of wildlife, including migratory wading birds, turtles, crocodiles, manta rays, black-tip reef sharks, dolphins and dugongs. It is truly one of the Kimberley’s most spectacular wild phenomena.
